Take These Three Simple Steps the Next Time You’re Feeling Stressed

Not to long ago, I read that burnout is now a legitimate medical diagnosis, according with the International Classification of Diseases. The description provided refers to chronic stress specifically in the workplace.

My thought around that is how  -we humans, reach the point of chronic stress? We probably can think of many reasons in our lives that can lead us to that point. But instead of focusing on that, I want you to focus and shift your attention towards the positive things that you can do, add or change in your life so you can focus on joyful living.

In my own experience, when I feel that I have too much going on in my plate. I try to focus on what I can do to feel better. Why? Because once I start feeling overwhelm, I know that I won’t have the emotional capacity to move on with my day. I’m not talking about selfish attention but about self-compassion.

Instead of feeling pity for ourselves, we can take the suffering, give it a hug and say -I’m having a difficult time, what can I do right now to care for myself?

My suggestion:

Pause: That’s the pause I’m talking about: What can I do right now to care for myself? Is hard to move on with everything in our lives without recognizing understanding towards ourselves.

Reconnect: When we show appreciation and kindness towards ourselves, we are opening the door to look inside us and care for what we need. We cannot take care of others or be productive if we don’t take care of ourselves first.

Reset: our human condition is complex and that’s a phrase from my dad, and he is right, we humans have a lot of complexity to deal with: emotions, judgments, beliefs, frustrations, etc. When I say ‘reset’ I mean ‘start over’. If we could only accept our human condition. We know things won’t go perfect all the time, and that’s ok. We will do mistakes and feel disappointed, that’s part of our normal life.

Pause, reconnect and reset. Give yourself an opportunity to restart where you are. Life is not a race but an opportunity to create, live mindfully and joyfully.
